In Victoria, the majority of our volunteer roles are event-based. We hold a number of Corporate and Kids’ events throughout the year, and we’re always on the lookout for friendly faces to join us and help everything run smoothly. We also require help with tin-rattling at public events from time to time, and on rare occasions we’ll put the call-out for help around the office with everything from warehouse clean-ups, to administration tasks.
We love to have new volunteers join the Variety team. To get involved, please apply for a position on our portal by clicking here.
It is the policy of Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria that all volunteers, regardless of the activity in which they are engaged, must hold a valid Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC). Those with a VIT Permit as well as officers of the Victorian Police Force and Australian Federal Police are exempt from this requirement.
To apply for or check the status of your WWCC, please visit www.vic.gov.au.
To add Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria to your list of WWCC organisations, please click here.
You will also need to agree to Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria's Code of Conduct.
To apply for a free Volunteer WWCC, you must fill in the online application form on the Working with Children Check website. You will also need to verify your identity, either online or at a post office.
After completing the form, you will receive an email with instructions on how to finalise your application at a post office. A passport photo is required for your application and this will be taken at the post office free of charge.
Once submitted, it may take up to six weeks to receive your WWCC card by mail. Please plan ahead, as it is the policy of Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria that all volunteers hold a valid WWCC card and we cannot accept application receipts.
However, after lodging your application at Australia Post, you’ll receive an approval notification from the Department of Justice via email, which typically takes around two weeks. In some cases, we may allow you to volunteer with a printed copy of this email and a valid Photo ID. Please check with the relevant Variety team member.
Visit My Volunteer Portal and login by entering your details and clicking on the link sent to your email address (please check the junk folder).
In the portal, you will be able to view your volunteering history, sign up for shifts, cancel shifts, update your availability, and report your hours. Variety will be notified of any shift changes or cancellations.
Please note that this link can be saved for easy access to your portal in the future.
An event brief will be emailed before the event and again the day before an event to remind you to bring your Working With Children Check with you on the day and provide any further relevant information. Shift date and times are also available in your personal volunteer portal.
